In the last 50 years our national congress has passed, and various presidents have signed into law, literally tens of thousands of laws and regulations, all designed, at least theoretically to establish and define, if not create, an ethical and moral “good society.” The Supreme Court has issued hundreds of verdicts and interpretations of those laws. Add to these the gross number of laws and rulings that have been added by our state governments and the sheer number and weight of all this legislation and judicial ruling is way beyond staggering the imagination. It is expressive of man’s vain hope that government, any government can provide a safe, secure, and prosperously happy society. It is stunning to see how man persists in this hope in the face of such contrary...

Hear this warning in a quote from an essay, ”Globalization: Incubator of a New Slavery” by Os Guinness: “Globalization represents a massive erosion of roots and realism. We have shifted from the soul to the ego, from truth to spin, from the hero to the celebrity, and from real relationships to virtual relationships. Put all that together, and you can see how profound is the erosion of roots and realism.”
Erosion or replacement of roots and/or realism is no problem provided that the replacements are superior to the originals.
In America and in Western countries we are late in the process of replacing our God-centered roots with man-centered roots. We are replacing an eternal perspective of reality with temporal-focused reality, and a sense of collective...

Well, that didn’t take long! The Republicans have proven that they are as tone-deaf as the Democrats! Did the November election really happen? It is like 1995 all over again. Can anyone explain to me the reason why the START treaty, Don’t ask Don’t tell, and the aid for 9/11 responders et. al. couldn’t have waited a couple of weeks before passage???? The Repubs caved and put wind in the sails of an empty suit – again!
I don’t know about you but, unless there is dramatic change with the new congress, and I mean DRAMATIC!!!!, it looks to me like, politically, it has to be the Tea Party or no party. There is just no hope to be found in professional politicians. Our Founders knew that and warned us and they were right. Term limits, true spending cuts,...

In line with my recent post about the loss and worldly distortion of the real meaning of Christmas, I found a quote from Os Guinness that I think is right on target and want to share it with you.
“Today we tend to talk of “work” and “leisure” as opposites. Work is serious, leisure is play, it is said. Work is drudgery, leisure is fun. Work is for pay, leisure is free. Work is what we do for someone else, leisure is for ourselves – and so on. But a moment’s thought shows this is not so. Far closer to the mark is the observation that the modern world has scrambled things so badly that we worship our work, we work at our play, and we play at our worship.” Os Guinness – The Call.
Our culture slides ever closer to secular nihilism and it...
