Hear this warning in a quote from an essay, ”Globalization: Incubator of a New Slavery” by Os Guinness: “Globalization represents a massive erosion of roots and realism. We have shifted from the soul to the ego, from truth to spin, from the hero to the celebrity, and from real relationships to virtual relationships. Put all that together, and you can see how profound is the erosion of roots and realism.”
Erosion or replacement of roots and/or realism is no problem provided that the replacements are superior to the originals.
In America and in Western countries we are late in the process of replacing our God-centered roots with man-centered roots. We are replacing an eternal perspective of reality with temporal-focused reality, and a sense of collective responsibility is quickly replacing individual responsibility.
The developing countries want what they think we have. We are eager to export our world-view but what is it really that we have to share?
How is it working for us? What are the trends? THINK! As we face a New Year, are we seeing a better world? Do we, can we, hope for one if we continue to do as we have done in progressively secularizing our culture? THINK!
If you, like me, honestly answer “no” to these questions, who can, who will, lead us in a better way? There is only one possible resolve, that is to look to the one who said, “I am The Way The Truth, and The Life, and no one comes to the Father but by me.” Jesus and His way is the only hope for our world and only authentic Christians can bring His life to this shrinking planet.
Yours in Him for a better 2011.
